The CDA township (Markatnagar) area of Cuttack city was growing fast. There were not enough good schools for children. A few private schools opened but poor families could not afford the fees. Some educated people, social workers and residents realized this problem. They wanted to open a school for underprivileged children that taught Indian values and traditions.
Because of their efforts, Saraswati Shishu Mandir school started in the year 2000. In 2007, it became a high school and the name changed to Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir.
